This work is so visually compelling, and conceptually rich, that words not only pale, they flee the field. No matter. The image brings its own words. Whose reflexive presence completes the artifice like the obligatory nail in a tromp l'oeil painting. A genre this image pays some homage to. (Darkly?... hunting horns with game fowl displayed?) The debt to pictorial means is more specific: a strong raking light and shallow plane puts form in stark relief, floating before 'drop' shadows. A light from directly above? The art history starts to pile up. References passively acquired. Clear yet illusive. The libido feels toyed with, the eye feels pleasured. The sight of sound touched. 'become art', a challenge for the spirit. And hanging by a thread.
